As part of the Disney "Give a Day, Get a Day" program we hand made 5 blankets to donate to Project Linus in New Hampshire. They provide the blankets to children in crisis.

It was a really fun family project...and for a wonderful cause.

A distinguished Victorian residence was selected for the 10th anniversary Newport, Rhode Island Designer Showhouse.

sponsored by the Newport Showhouse Guild, whose mission is Charity by Design, the selected house is a fine Victorian located in the historic Top of the Hill section of Newport. The current owners have named their residence Terrazzo Sasso, which translates to Stone Terrace.

The charities selected as beneficiaries of the designers showhouse events and tours are the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Lucy's Hearth, City Year Rhode Island, Star Kids and Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol counties. All of the charities were selected based on their work in the areas mentoring and education.

Quail Tree House, Newport, Rhode Island

The 2003 showhouse is the fourth in the series of showplaces produced by this group. This one is in historic Quail Tree house, built in the 1860's and once the seasonal home of Pulitzer Prize winning novelist, poet and short story writer Edith Wharton.

This is a particularly interesting house to decorate since Edith Wharton's first book, published in 1897, was called "The Decoration of Houses" and was the first book written on interior design.

The Quail Tree House has 29 rooms, each decorated by different designers. Designers are largely from Rhode Island, but a few come from nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut to show off their talents.

The 2003 showhouse will donate proceeds to the martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and the Women's Resource Center, echoing Edith Wharton's own devotion to raising money for charities that aid women and children.

The Storybook Ball...Women & Infants Auxiliary

What an amazing evening!

For those of you that don't know about this event...The Storybook Ball is a unique fundraising event developed by the Auxiliary of Woman & Infants Hospital, in Providence, Rhode Island...to benefit the hospital.

This bi-annual gala brings together a wide variety of designers that create tablescapes based on children's stories.

I was fortunate enough to be involved this year and designed a table based on one of my son's favorite books "The Night Eater" by Ana Juan.

The event, which was October 2005, was a treat to attend! Proceeds will support a major expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and more adult impatient rooms.

Having spent a number of weeks as a patient of Woman & Infants Hospital while I was pregnant and delivering my child there...this project, personally, had a lot of meaning for me.

Below are a few photos of my tablescape and my interpretation of this whimsical story...I can't wait to do it again!
